Exhaust whinge.......!!!
I've had my stainless exhaust on about 2 years now... was fitted by Ascar (Exhausts UK) and came with a 25 year guarantee.
Everything was fine until about 2 months ago when it started to make a raspy rattling noise when I hit about 3500 rpm... annoying....!!! Ascar were happy to stick to their guarantee and I took the car back.... I was m,ost shocked when they announced that I needed a new Cat.!!! Not only this but they wanted to charge me a huge amount of money to remove the FM Butterfly Brace, it was apparently going to take several hours (the reality is I fitted the brace myself and it actually has a removable central section which takes about 5 mins to remove).... Daylight robbery.....!!!
Anyway..... after receiving the news I drove the car away having told them I would "think about it".....!! Again I was shocked when the exhausts started banging in the underside of the car and the butterfly brace (it wasn't doing this before...!!!). So, back it went....... (and this was the most shocking thing) Ascer said that they could see no reason why it was banging......!!!
I went under the car myself and with one tug on the exhaust (which was hot, they mustn't have wanted to burn their hands) found the problem - the exhaust was banging on the chassis brace. Ascar's solution was to use brut force to bend the exhaust despite my protests and suggestion that the obviously worn rubbers may be the real solution.
I drove the car away hoping for the banging to be gone, again dissapointment, on cornering hard right the force was pushing the exhaust against the brace.
If you want it done properly, do it yourself. I bought some preformance rubbers and fixed the problem myself - now all is well.
The moral of the story is beware, not only of poor workmanship (even from places you thought were good) but also of people trying to extract money from you.
Sorry for the length.
Cheers

our cars are old - warranty has expired - so on and so forth.
therefore never take your car to a garage - do the work yourself, learn about your car, sweat blood and feel proud when you've done it...
i took my 5 to a garage for some welding when i first got it and they set it on fire for me (goodstyle)... Arseholes...
glad you sorted it yourself mate.

Makes me thankful I aint shared crap garage experiences!!
I take mine to a garage where I personally know the mechanic, therefore no chance of any bad work being undertaken or being ripped off!!
Glad you got it sorted mate!

Heard quite a few problems from Exhausts UK (formally Ascar). Yeh best plan learn how to do your car yourself. I've got a lot to learn but mine being a pretty new model (Colt CZT) my brothers had hand on experience of taking it to pieces lol
