remote recode / resetHi
I'm loathed to pay the main dealer an hours labour to recode my remote fob. Anyone out there who knows how / where / who etc to get it sorted ?
I've looked on the "tinterweb" and there are various tip involving messing with the ignition switch & interior light switch but none seem to be avaiable for the mx5

Tetley sorry if I sounded a bit direct but I did say "Hi" at the start (ps - we have met some while ago - Trafalgar rd chippy - black Mk2 - you mentioned the S5 club ?)
I have a '51' Mk2.5 18 sport - standard apart from K&N induction kit.
I bought it 'bout 4 years ago (having had a mk1 eunos for 3yrs) minus the remote fob. I went to GK who had it for a day and sorted a fob and code £125 !!!!!!!!!
Some while later the fob stopped working all of a sudden and I've never got round (read- can't be arsed and maybe too tight) to book it in to get it recoded.
Cheers for the welocomes & replies

Righto mate al have an ask at work tomorrow for ya, remote fobs dont generally (with the exception of occasionally needing new batterys) stop working for no reason tho so in all likely hood the fob is goosed or something else is wrong but al see what I can do.

Been asking around.......I'm led to believe that the car and remote work on a frequency that changes every 10 activations..........prob is they fall out of sync.
According to "Tinterweb "all sorts of cars (inc some Mazdas) can be reset but can't find owt for a 5

Ok mate al have an ask for you, Vauxhalls do the same if you keep pressing the fob buttons, its a rolling code so its set to receive within a certain allowed number of sequences, all you have to do to re sync them is press the fob button a couple of times with the ignition switched on, not sure on mazdas but will endeavor to find out by tomorrow for you.

Ok then mate, the general consensus amongst the mazda techs is that the remotes dont just fall out of sync normally, they have had a few where they needed new batterys and also a few with the battery fitted wrong so double check that but also the fobs themselves are notorious for packing up, the procedure to program a new remote is:
1) Jump in the drivers seat, close the door, cycle the ignition on and off the times, after the third time leave the ignition off.
2) Cycle the interior light switch on and off three times, this should set the central locking into self learn mode and the door locks should operate themselves.
3) Repeatedly press the fob buttons then switch the ignition on and off to take it out of learn mode, Job done apparently
